8 Stars That Broke Transfer Records

The transfer window has been quite interesting so far, stars like Rooney, Lukaku, Morata, Walker and many others have joined new teams. The Premier League and others have spent so much money in recent months that a $50 million transfer for a star now looks like a great deal for the richest clubs. Neymar recently broke a transfer record and it probably won’t be too long before a team matches or sets a new one. Here are seven transfers that broke records at the time they happened:

Cristiano Ronaldo

In 2009, Ronaldo broke transfer records when Manchester United and Real Madrid agreed to a transfer fee of around $100 million. The move now looks like a cheap one for Real Madrid but back then it was a lot of money for just one player. Ronaldo has helped Real Madrid win three Champions League titles and is one of the best, if not the best player in football right now. Last year, reports said the Portuguese footballer rejected a $300 million transfer to a club in China that would have given him a salary of $100 million per year.

Neymar

Neymar has joined PSG after a record setting transfer of 222 million euros. The Brazilian star had been mentioned in plenty of transfer rumors in recent years but it was PSG who convinced him to make the move. He will now join national team teammates Dani Alves and Silva. PSG didn’t have the greatest season last year but this move gives them another star to compete in the league and Champions League.

Paul Pogba

Last year, Manchester United set a new record when it signed Paul Pogba from Juventus. The world record fee was 110 million euros and the move gave the club one of the best midfielders in the world. The club has now spent nearly 200 million euros in the last two seasons. Oh and that’s not counting other signings that the club has made.
Raheem Sterling

In 2015, Raheem Sterling became the most expensive English footballer when Liverpool and Manchester City agreed on a $76 million transfer. The most impressive part about this transfer is that Sterling was just 20 years old when he signed with Manchester City.

Ederson

Manchester City broke the transfer record for a goalkeeper after 16 years. Hart, Bravo and Caballero were all starters at one point but only one of them remains with the club. Ederson’s transfer was for more than $40 million, breaking a record that stood for 16 years. The amount is a lot but still not close to what the club has spent on Silva, Walker and other players on this transfer window.

Romelu Lukaku

In 2016 and 2017, Manchester United set two Premier League records. A few weeks ago, Romelu Lukaku became the second most expensive signing of the league. He also holds the record for most expensive signing at the striker position. Manchester United struggled at times last season but did win the Europa League, which earned them a spot in the Champions League. Lukaku is a good addition for the club, especially after they released Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The club hasn’t ruled out bringing Zlatan back in January, so the team could soon have two stars at the striker position.

Luis Suarez

In 2014, Barcelona created a goal scoring machine with Suarez, Messi and Neymar on the team. Neymar and Messi were already providing plenty of goals but the addition of Suarez made them even more dangerous. The signing was the most expensive of 2014 at 82 million euros. It will be interesting to see who Barcelona signs after transferring Neymar to PSG for 222 million euros. In recent days, there have been rumors about a deal that would send Gomes and Rafinha to Juventus for Dybala.

Gareth Bale

In 2013, Real Madrid set a new transfer record when it signed Gareth Bale from Tottenham for a little over 100 million euros. The jaw dropping signing was more than what they spent for Ronaldo in 2009. The move has been a good one for the club as Bale has helped them win three Champions League trophies in the last four years.

The world of football has shocked us all with the jaw dropping transfers in recent years but with clubs now spending over 200 million euros, it probably won’t be too long before more transfer records are set.

Why Do We Always Screw Up When Someone’s Watching?

Source: OMGfacts Julian Larach Follow Writer @Dose and @OMGFacts. Here to help you procrastinate. Instagram: Julian_Larach Aug 11 Raise your hand if you’ve totally forgotten how to type when your boss is watching. Some nights I have trouble falling asleep because of the embarrassment I still feel after a horrific incident that landed me a shameful black eye. I attended a junior Olympic diving competition in Montréal as a teenager. It wasn’t until I got up on the platform that I began to panic. Everyone was watching me. The onlookers were divers from around the world who were destined to be olympians, world champs, or, I don’t know, future Instagram celebs. As many times as I had drilled the hell out of this dive during practice, somehow, I managed to drop the ball in front of the wrong crowd. Let’s just say that “belly-flop” is a sugar coated version of what happened. But basically, my muscle memory vanished. I landed flat on my stomach and was gifted with a mortifying...

Snake venom (poison) can be used for many things, but the most important is its use in medical research or to produce "antivenom."
